Aptis Remote Test Versions
Aptis General
This is the most popular version of Aptis. It measures levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C. It has the 4 components (Reading / Listening / Writing / Speaking) plus Grammar & Vocabulary.
Aptis Advanced
This is the version of Aptis for institutions or candidates who need to measure advanced levels. This exam measures levels B1, B2, C1 and C2 and has all four components.
Aptis For Teachers
This is a specialized version of the Aptis to assess and certify the English proficiency of educators. It evaluates their ability to use English effectively in a teaching context.

Aptis test certification does not have an official expiry date.Â
What is the duration of the test?
The total test duration is approximately three hours:
Core component (grammar and vocabulary): 25 minutes
Reading: 30 minutes
Listening: 50 minutes
Writing: 50 minutes
Speaking: 12 minutesÂ
What device can i use to take the test?
The test must be taken on a computer only. Mobile devices are not permitted.Â
Please ensure that all the system requirements below have been checked and are functioning correctly. Â
- A laptop or computer running the following operating system versions: Windows v7.0+ (64-bit version), MacOS 10.10+, MacOS BigSur 11.3+.Â
Mobile phones, tablets, Chromebooks, or Surface Pros cannot be used. - Intel Core i3 (or equivalent) and 4GB RAM.Â
- A working microphone, laptop speakers or headset with built-in microphone.
- Internet speed of 2.4 Mbps but 2 Mbps is satisfactory.Â
- A screen size of at least 13″ and a resolution of 1024 x 768.3 is recommended.Â
We strongly recommend candidates to use a wired headset with built in microphone that connects to the computer using either a USB or 3.5mm jack cable connector. Wireless headsets or mobile phone earbuds with built in microphones are not recommended.
How long will it take to get the test results?
Results are typically available within five days after completing the test. You will receive an email notification with instructions on how to access your results online.
Aptis is a computer-based test with an innovative marking system. The productive skills of speaking and writing are marked by our trained examiners as the tasks are authentic and communicative in nature.
The Aptis Listening Test contains 17 tasks and a total of 20 different recordings focusing on different aspects of real-life listening. You will have around 40 minutes to complete the listening test.
There are four parts to the Writing test, all linked by a common topic. You will respond to questions, contribute to a social-media type interaction, and write emails. All tasks are marked by an examiner.
This component tests your ability to communicate in English in real-life situations. The duration of the test is 12 minutes.
The Aptis Reading component is divided into four sections and the tasks become more difficult as the test progresses.
The Grammar and Vocabulary component is the core element of the Aptis test. It has two parts and you will have 25 minutes to complete it.
